DAY SIXTY-SIX: Finally lost the plot
The stop at Gympie was a council owned rest area similar to Thora
with uneven ground and flush toilets. We were used to this by now but what
neither of us liked was that it rained hard all night from the moment we got
there so we were pretty damp after cooking tea.
In the morning we
set off to Rainbow beach according to the lonely planet book it has lovely
beaches with lots of shades of sand. When we arrived it was like Bendalong with
buger all to do. However, we have been inspired by the 4wd rentals for Fraser
Island. We were disappointed by the beach but right next to it was a shower
block that we made the most of, you would understand this if you lived in a
campervan. Along the way back we stopped at Seary Creek it was quite good,
there were steps to the water which was full of catfish, yabbie and eel.
We were staying
at Apple Tree creek which was a lot like yesterday’s spot. After tea the final
threads of my sanity had snapped. I started singing at random after that started talking to Eric the echidna. We have
been talking to him for a few days I think it’s the sun driving us a bit mad.
After that Eric and I posed for a few photos of him giving me directions.
