DAY SIXTY-FOUR: Crickey!
I’ve been looking forward to today for years, Steve Irwin’s
Australia zoo. I use to watch his shows when I was little and on Saturday afternoons
the ‘Crocodile Hunter diaries’ use to be on featuring the zoo. In the morning I
was like a child at Christmas, I could not wait.
It took about an hour to get there so we got
up extremely early. It was exactly how I imagined and more. We went to a talk
about a giant tortoise which was interesting. Then we went to the elephant
enclosure where we got to hand feed an elephant this was great, we both really
loved doing this. Whilst at the zoo we went to the main show it was superb, it
was all timed perfectly the birds flew around to Metallica, then the Lorikeets
charged to ACDC. The main attraction was the Salties this part had a lot to
live up to from watching Steve on TV and they did a fantastic job of it in his
memory.
We saw elephants,
tigers, giraffes, zebras, komodo dragon and much more. We managed to stroke a
koala and wombat and a kangaroo. My favourite there was the echidna. The only
downside to the day was that it rained none stop and we couldn’t stay for
longer. We also paid a visit to the animal hospital where they care for injured
wildlife twenty four hours a day. We also gained a third passenger a small fury
echidna who we have named Eric.
